Nominate yourself or others for GWE social committee chair (by Feb 5)!

If so, please consider nominating yourself or others for social committee chair! The social committee has the freedom to plan a wide variety of events (within reason) — if you’ve got fun ideas for events, you can make them happen with GWE!

Big Sister STEM mentorship sign-ups
We are a fully virtual mentorship program focused on providing positive and supportive female role models in STEM. We pair undergrad/grad/post-grad women in STEM (Big Sisters) with young girls interested in STEM (Little Sisters). Our goal is to help our Little Sisters see themselves in our community of Big Sisters.

Big Sisters develop a curriculum based on their Little Sister's interests and questions to encourage their curiosity and nurture their interests in STEM. We also host periodic meetings with the whole group to do a project or listen to a guest speaker together.

Anyone interested can apply at tinyurl.com/BSSapply-BigSis. Our website is under construction, but you can check out our Instagram and Facebook pages @bigsisterstem to see some past event topics.”

Mentor Bay Area community college students through POWER (Jan 31)
POWER - Bay Area is a mentoring program and workshop series for East Bay community college students organized by UC Berkeley graduate students and postdocs.

POWER supports undergraduates from marginalized genders interested in the physical sciences, and we welcome participation from anyone who feels they would benefit. POWER’s mission is to provide each student with mentors to help them navigate their goals, to expose them to relatable role models, to empower each student to seek additional resources as their goals and needs change, and to ultimately help each student develop a sense of belonging in science.

We are currently looking for graduate student, postdoc, and research scientist mentors for the upcoming academic year. Mentors are expected to:
  • Meet with their mentees 3x per semester.
  • Complete a self-guided training (reading material, video content + a short questionnaire) -Attend our kick-off event and in-person events (on campus).
  • Resources and support will be provided for mentors who participate in our program.
Please fill out this form by Wednesday, January 31st, if you are interested! If you are a continuing mentor from last semester, you do not need to fill out the form again, but please email us to confirm your continued participation in the program.
