Community Updates

POWER - Bay Area Mentoring
POWER - Bay Area is a mentoring program and workshop series for East Bay community college students organised by UC Berkeley graduate students and postdocs. POWER supports undergraduates from marginalized genders interested in the physical sciences, and we welcome participation from anyone who feels they would benefit. POWER’s mission is to provide each student with mentors to help them navigate their goals, to expose them to relatable role models, to empower each student to seek additional resources as their goals and needs change, and to ultimately help each student develop a sense of belonging in science.

We are currently looking for graduate student, postdoc, and research scientist mentors for the upcoming academic year.

Mentors are expected to:
  • Meet with their mentees 3x per semester
  • Complete a self-guided training (reading material, video content + a short questionnaire)
  • Attend our kick-off event and in-person event in the spring.
  • Resources and support will be provided for mentors who participate in our program.
Please fill out this form by Friday, September 16th if you are interested!

If you have any questions, please contact Emma Turtelboom (eturtelboom@berkeley.edu), Caleb Harada (charada@berkeley.edu), or Daniel Spears (spears.dp@berkeley.edu). Further information about the program is available at powerbayarea.wordpress.com.
