GWP Website for 150W is LIVE
For many reasons, 2020 is one for the history books. This year, Berkeley celebrates
150 Years of Women (150W) being admitted to
the university. At the beginning of this
year,
Graduate Womxn’s* Project (GWP)
proposed a zine to highlight and document the
amazing work of Berkeley’s graduate womxn.
However, the COVID pandemic and the uprising for Black justice has reoriented the mission
and vision of the zine. Today, we reimagine the zine as an opportunity for Berkeley
graduate womxn to share their voice, inspire others, and celebrate each other's accomplishments.
The zine will be a living project, and we welcome all graduate womxn to participate
by sharing music, poems, short stories, photography, dance performances, visual
media - anything you’d like to share! We aim to produce a hardcopy and a digital platform
to allow for all types of creative expressions. As we push this historic project forward,
we are looking for volunteers to collaborate and partner with diverse graduate womxn.
See the attached flyer and
check out our fabulous website where you
can submit your Zine content!

Popping the Science Bubble Looking for Speakers
Application Due November 20, 2020
Popping the Science Bubble
is recruiting graduate and post-doc presenters for our last 2020
seminar in December and for the upcoming year (2021)! PtSB is a monthly scientific seminar
series typically held at the Berkeley Public Library, though currently virtual due to COVID.
This seminar series is aimed specifically at the general public -- people who have little or no
exposure to science and scientists. We aim to disseminate information, demystify commonly
misunderstood topics, and to create direct communication between scientists and the broader
public. This is a great opportunity to practice public speaking and communicating science to
a non-scientific audience.
Each presenter is asked to prepare 15 minutes of material, with two presenters per seminar.
We encourage presenters to talk about their own research, but we have also had presentations
that give basic overviews of a topic or describe interesting new findings and perspectives in a field.
For the foreseeable future, seminars will be presented via live-streamed virtual talks hosted
by the Berkeley Public Library. You do not need to be in the Berkeley area to present.
If you would be interested in presenting, please fill out the
Popping the Science Bubble speaker form.
Sign-ups will remain open but we ask that you respond by November 20. If you have
recommendations for speakers or know other who would be interested, please email
poppingthesciencebubble@berkeley.edu and feel free to contact us with any questions.
LEED Center Certification
The LEED Professional Designation has helped past participants attain internships,
jobs and advanced their careers in multiple fields and now is a great time to add
this credential. LEED is simply a sustainability scorecard for green buildings.
Buildings can become LEED Certified as can people! The best way to break into the
sustainability space is to attain the LEED Green Associate. It also shows employers
and clients you have certified knowledge in the field. Since the LEED GA exam doesn’t
have a stellar pass rate, the value of the extra letters behind your name will carry
even more weight. This course is instructed by a USGBC Faculty member and is the most
effective way to pass. The USGBC charges a $100 (reduced for students) fee for the
actual exam which can now be taken online from home. Save money by reserving your
spot today and make a positive difference in your career!
Cost: $200 - Students can use the coupon code ‘green’ for $50 off (Discounted course price $150)

Empowering Women of Color Conference: Culture, Strength, & Leadership Among Indigenous Womxn
Friday, November 20 at 3pm
This event will bring indigenous womxn leaders together in an intergenerational conversation on how
they channel strength and healing in their organizing work. We will hold space to listen in on how
these womxn tap into their culture to cultivate their communities. Our gathering will focus on
connecting with the wisdom and skills these womxn hold in their experiences. Denisa will draw from
her experiences addressing food access and COVID recovery in the Navajo nation, and Ataya will share
her work in the Indigenous community at Berkeley and beyond. Sharing their stories ensures continuity
of their knowledge, enabling us to draw from their experiences when crafting our own narratives. We
find respite in learning their various forms of resistance. Please join us!

and see attached flyer.
